Dame Arlene Phillips DBE: choregraphing crucial conversations

The internationally acclaimed choreographer and theatre director, Dame Arlene Phillips DBE, has explored our  Life100+ report and we’re delighted to share her thoughts on our research on living longer lives.

Living longer lives will inevitably throw unexpected surprises our way, but if we can start planning for this possibility now, it will allow us to truly make the most of the time we have with our loved ones. Planning for a longer life is a combination of preparing for the practicalities whilst also cherishing the opportunities we have to enjoy life, no matter our age.

Canada Life’s Life100+ report highlights that one of the biggest steps we can take is to open up conversations with those around us. As a nation, we've traditionally been reserved when it comes to speaking about topics like ageing, finances, and future goals. But breaking these taboos is a must. Talking about the realities of living longer gives us a chance to feel empowered, be better prepared, and become more connected to the people who matter most to us.

Getting older doesn’t mean life stops. In fact, there is so much to experience. We should embrace the possibilities that lie ahead with a sense of optimism, excitement and purpose. Canada Life has given me the nudge I need to prepare for living longer and have these crucial conversations with loved ones.”
