Meet Amelie

About Amelie

Age:  36

Occupation: Hospitality manager

Optimism level:  Medium/low

Amelie used to love her job but lately, she’s struggling to feel motivated. She returned to work six months ago after being on maternity leave and there has been a lot of change in her workplace. In her absence, there have been restructures and she’s come back to a brand-new team. Amelie usually welcomes change but she’s finding it hard to adjust. She’s still happy in her role, but she’s noticing that she doesn’t have the same level of resilience that she used to. Amelie puts it down to being sleep deprived and hopes that things will start to get better soon.

What our research says about Amelie

  • Between 35 and 44 years, the number of those feeling optimistic begins to wane (to 54%).

Family

Amelie lives in Oxford with her partner. Her parents live in France and her brother lives in Bristol. She’s become used to travelling to see her family and while they all live far apart, they are still very close. They have a big family holiday once a year to spend quality time together. Now that she’s starting a family of her own, she’s even more excited about continuing her family traditions.

Motivations

Amelie always knew she wanted to make a difference somehow. She had friends growing up who didn’t have the same opportunities that she did, and it made her realise the difference the right support can make. Amelie started working for her company ten years ago and has worked her way up, but she would like a change in her career. While she enjoys it, she would like to pursue a career in social care.

Wellbeing

Amelie is content with her life but she’s starting to feel like she’s just going through the motions. She’s had a lot of change in her life recently and she’s been focused on other things. Amelie has noticed how tired and achy she’s been feeling lately and would like to find a hobby or exercise class that would give her some time to herself. She also worries that her and her partner have been eating too many things for convenience and wants to find more nutritious meals that they can cook.
