Central Register of Beneficial Ownership of Trusts

How to register a trust on the Irish Central register of Beneficial Ownership of Trusts.

What is the Central Register of Beneficial Ownership of Trusts (CRBOT)?

The Central Register of Beneficial Ownership of Trusts (CRBOT) is a register which aims to improve transparency on who owns and controls a trust with links to Ireland. The CRBOT will contain details of relevant trusts and their beneficial owners, and trustees must submit these details to the Revenue Commissioners, who manage the CRBOT.

From 05 March 2025, the Revenue Commissioners CRBOT went live for non-resident trust registrations. This means that from this date, existing trusts need to register with CRBOT before a new policy can commence. For at-issue trusts, the trust must register with CRBOT within six months of the trust's creation.

Do I need to register a trust with CRBOT?

All new and existing UK trusts, as well as non-EU trusts, need to register on CRBOT when taking out a policy from an Irish-based provider.

If your policy is issued by Canada Life International Assurance (Ireland) DAC (CLIAI), you need to ensure the trust is registered with Central Register of Beneficial Ownership of Trusts (CRBOT) as well as the Trust Registration Service.

How do I register a trust with CRBOT?

As a financial adviser or trustee, you can register a trust directly with the Revenue Commissioners. Visit the Revenue Commissioners website for a step-by-step guide to registering a trust on CRBOT.

If you have any questions about the new registration process, please contact the Revenue Commissioners at NonResCRBOT@revenue.ie

Let us know about a registered trust

We have an obligation to collect evidence of a trust’s registration and check that the beneficial ownership information on the trust record matches our own records.

Once you’ve registered a trust, please email policyservicing@canadalifeint.com with the 10-digit CRBOT trust registration number. If we don’t receive this confirmation, we will suspend future transactions, including regular income payments.
