Motivating for longevity
Understanding what motivates employees at different career and life stages could help employers attract, engage and retain talent.
Explore how longer lives are reshaping work, financial planning and employee needs, and what it could take to build workplaces fit for a multigenerational future
Longer lives will not necessarily mean everyone simply working for longer. Instead, the traditional path from education to work and then retirement could become more fluid, with career changes, retraining, breaks and more gradual transitions out of work.
Building on our first Life100+ report, which considered how people can prepare for longer lives, our second report turns to the changing world of work. Here, we consider how workplaces can respond to people’s evolving goals and needs, while recognising the skills and experience of a multigenerational workforce.
Our research identified four pillars that could help workplaces respond to longer, more varied working lives.
Understanding what motivates employees at different career and life stages could help employers attract, engage and retain talent.
The right workplace support can help employers respond to a multigenerational workforce without assuming that everyone at the same age wants or needs the same things.
Opportunities to retrain, take career breaks or move gradually towards retirement will help people continue contributing in ways that work for them and their employers.
Challenging age-related assumptions and creating opportunities to learn from one another can help multigenerational teams thrive.
Experts from The Big Window, 55/Redefined, the International Longevity Centre UK and Canada Life UK explore what the longevity megatrend could mean for the workforce, economy and society, and how employers can respond.
