Life100+ for Employers
Build a workforce ready for a 100-year life
People are living and working for longer. At the same time, employees are managing more complex health, financial and family responsibilities. For employers, this is more than a benefits trend. It is a workforce planning issue.
Our Life100+ research found that 74% of people believe they will need to work longer to support themselves in later life, whilst 72% are concerned about running out of money in retirement. A longevity-ready workplace helps employees remain healthy, financially resilient and connected to work through longer, less linear careers.
What is a longevity-ready workplace?
A longevity-ready workplace is one that recognises people may work for longer and experience different needs at different life stages. It brings together flexible careers, health and wellbeing, financial confidence, support for carers and workplace protection.
How can employers support employees through life stages?
Employers can provide relevant support before, during and after key life events. That may include pension and retirement education, flexible working, mental wellbeing services, support for employees with caring responsibilities and protection benefits that support financial resilience during illness, injury or bereavement.
Five tips for a longevity-ready workplace
- Plan for longer and more varied careers, including flexible and phased retirement.
- Provide health and wellbeing support that encourages early action as well as recovery.
- Help employees build financial confidence throughout their working lives, not only near retirement.
- Recognise the impact of caring responsibilities and support the sandwich generation.
- Review whether workplace protection benefits support employees when life takes an unexpected turn.
