Meet Peter

He's in the dip of the curve

About Peter

Peter lives in South London with his family. He's been working at the same company for ten years and has held many positions during his time there. He enjoys the project management side of his current role and working collaboratively with different teams across the business. However, his company are currently upgrading their systems, and the workload is proving challenging.

Peter is sitting at his desk for long hours while also juggling the school runs. His wife is a nurse at the local hospital and works different shifts during the week, so he needs to work flexibly throughout the day to make sure he can pick up his kids. The pressure of juggling his family life and work life is starting to mount and he just focuses on getting through each day.

Stage of the curve: the dip

  • Peter feels guilty for not spending enough time with his kids

  • His father is in ill health and Peter worries how it’s impacting his mother

  • He’s struggling with his mental health

  • Peter’s work life balance is suffering

What our research tells us

  • 45% of people who don’t feel in control do what they need to do out of necessity, which reflects Peter’s current circumstances

  • As people move into their 50s, they’re less motivated by career and salary and more by personal goals and inner satisfaction

  • 68% of those satisfied have goals to help increase family time
