Behind every pension is a person
Violet has always loved her job but she’s ready for the next phase of her life now. Teaching children has been one of the most rewarding things she’s ever done, but after working most of her life, she’s ready to retire. That doesn’t mean she’s ready to slow down though – she’s simply ready for her next adventure. Violet followed all the rules of life; she worked hard, raised a family, paid into her pension and saved money where possible. But now that she’s 70, she’s ready to get out into the world and explore. Having spent most of her life with her head in her books, she wants to travel and see some places in real life. However, Violet worries that her dreams and her finances might not quite match up. She wonders if she can go travelling and still have enough money to live on. Although she’s apprehensive, she really wants to do it now while she’s still in good health.
Violet is going through a divorce. She’s the person that everyone depends on and looks to for answers, but right now, she doesn’t know what to do next. While it was an amicable decision, the reality of the financial side of her divorce is starting to hit her. Violet might have to sell her family home to afford living by herself. They’ll have to divide all their assets and Violet will only have her income to depend on. She’s finding it very overwhelming. Violet knows that she needs advice, but she doesn’t know where to start.
Violet has access to both emotional and financial support through Your Life Hub. Here, she’ll find links to charities and organisations that can offer her guidance on how to navigate this big life change.
Violet has a lot of questions about her divorce and wants to speak to a professional. She doesn’t want to ask any friends or family if they can recommend anyone because her divorce isn’t common knowledge yet. As one of our members, Violet has access to WeCare. Through the wellbeing app, she can get expert legal advice to help her navigate the complexities of her divorce. Violet can also download the app to find tips around managing her finances.
Violet can use Canada Life One View to not only request her retirement quote, but also the forms she needs to start claiming her pension. Following her divorce, she can also update her beneficiaries through Canada Life OneView. She can do this in her own time, whenever she’s ready. She can also update her address after she’s moved into her new property.
Violet logs into Canada Life One View and requests a retirement quote. She receives the quotation and all the forms she needs to start claiming her pension within 10 working days. However, Violet decides that she’ll begin claiming her pension from her 71st birthday, in 3 months’ time.
We understand that sometimes our members need extra support, especially when they’re navigating big life changes. While Violet has access to a range of different support through our services, she might want to ask questions about any forms we’ve sent her. Our customer representatives can guide Violet through the forms and provide any additional information that she needs.
