Behind every pension is a person
Lee is the type of person who enjoys structure and routine. He’s worked at his company for the last eleven years and enjoys the familiarity of knowing his work colleagues and all the different processes he’s helped to implement. As he approaches retirement age, he’s started to think about trying something new. He’s been in project management for half of his working life and while he enjoys it, he’s looking for more personal fulfilment. He’s always been passionate about supporting his local charities and he’s debating whether he could retire soon so he can volunteer more. Lee has a DB pension with Canada Life and two DC pensions.
Lee’s father recently passed away. The unexpected loss of his father has shaken his family, and his mother and younger brother can’t face dealing with any of the paperwork. As the executor of the will, Lee now has the responsibility of managing his father’s estate, as well as also dealing with the loss of a loved one. His wife has also recently had a small procedure which has left her immobile for a few weeks. He’s starting to feel the pressure of supporting his family and being a pillar of strength, while also grieving his father.
Lee has access to WeCare. He used the mental health support service during his father’s illness. Following his father passing he then accesses the dedicated bereavement counselling helpline to help him during this difficult time. He also uses our probate helpline to help him work through the next steps.
Lee visits Your Life Hub and uses the planning for retirement resource to understand his options. Once he’s comfortable with this, he visits the knowledge centre to access helpful articles on how to make the most of his pension.
Feeling more informed about his options, Lee logs into Canada Life OneView to view the value of his pension and start planning for retirement.
