Specialist Cancer Care and Personal Nurse Service
The diagnosis of a serious health condition can be a difficult time for a person and their family. Our Personal Nurse Service provided by Healix Health, supports employees* clinically, emotionally and physically when living with a critical illness.
Employees or an eligible loved one* can receive unlimited support via phone, video call and email from a dedicated specialist nurse for up to 12 months from the point support begins.
Employees will be matched with a specialist nurse depending on their unique needs to deliver holistic, safe and personalised support.
The service provides access to a multi-disciplinary team of NMC-registered specialist nurses with extensive NHS backgrounds who specialise in areas such as Cardiology, Surgery, Haematology, Neurology and more.
Using a goal-oriented empowerment-based model, nurses will work with employees to establish realistic, measurable goals to break complex care journeys into manageable steps. This approach supports individuals to understand their condition, navigate NHS services, build confidence, and take an active role in managing their health. Whether the focus is recovery, stabilisation, or optimising quality of life, a dedicated nurse will be on hand to provide personalised, compassionate support throughout their journey.
This structured approach aims to improve their experience through reducing anxiety and increase feelings of being heard, informed and supported during moments that matter.
A dedicated specialist nurse to support them clinically, emotionally and practically, and be a sounding board for questions about their condition
Help navigating the NHS so their care pathway is as smooth and efficient as possible
Help preparing for consultations and procedures, so they feel informed and confident
Support interpreting test results and medical reports
Someone to advocate for them and speak to the clinicians (with their consent) involved in their care
Advice on managing side effects and symptoms
Clear information on managing long-term conditions, so they feel better informed and in control
Mental health support and signposting to further help if needed
Our Personal Nurse Service can support employees suffering from critical conditions other than cancer, from the point they submit a claim. This includes Heart attack, Stroke, Multiple Sclerosis and any other condition other than Cancer, where we partner with Perci Health.
This service is included for every employee making a critical illness claim or an eligible loved one* at no additional cost, whether the claim is accepted or not.
*Available to employees claiming under a Group Critical Illness policy, or the employee’s spouse/partner making a critical illness claim on the policy, or an immediate family caregiver providing care for the employee, spouse, partner or child. This service cannot directly support anyone under the age of 18.
Employees or an eligible loved one* will need to tick the box in part B of the Personal Statement Form to opt-in to this service.
If the employee or eligible loved one* making the claim doesn't feel ready to access support at the point they submit a claim, they can get back in touch with the Claims team any time within 12 months from the date they submit their claim to request support from Personal Nurse Service.
In some circumstances, it's more appropriate for a family caregiver to access support. Whether it's on behalf of the individual making the claim, or to help them come to terms with their loved one's diagnosis and treatment journey. They can simply email the team with the claim number to request our Personal Nurse Service, or contact customer services: 0345 223 8000. Access to the service is available any time within 12 months from the point their loved one submitted a claim.
This service is a non-contractual benefit provided through Canada Life and can be altered or withdrawn at any time.
