The power of meditation
Employers are increasingly recognising the importance of mental wellbeing at work – discover how meditation can help reduce stress, boost focus, and build emotional resilience.

In today’s fast-paced world, finding moments of calm can feel out of reach. But one simple, accessible tool—meditation—can have a profound impact on mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing.
I used to dismiss meditation. That changed 15 years ago while volunteering at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, where I saw young patients manage pain and anxiety through short, guided meditation sessions. Their resilience inspired me to try it myself. It wasn’t easy at first—my mind wandered constantly—but with practice, I began to feel more focused, balanced, and calm.
Why meditation matters
Meditation is about being present and aware. It helps quiet overthinking and reduce anxiety—anytime, anywhere. No equipment, no special setting—just a few minutes can make a difference.
Benefits of regular meditation
- Reduces stress and anxiety by promoting calmer reactions to pressure
- Improves emotional wellbeing through greater self-awareness and empathy
- Supports physical health by lowering blood pressure, improving sleep, and boosting immunity
Meditation offers space for stillness and clarity, especially when life feels overwhelming.

Why employers should build meditation into the workday
Supporting mindfulness at work shows a real commitment to employee wellbeing. Regular meditation has been shown to reduce stress, improve concentration, and enhance decision-making—benefits that can lead to higher engagement and lower absenteeism.
Simple ways to introduce meditation at work:
- Provide a quiet space for reflection or deep breathing
- Host short, optional guided sessions—in person or online
- Encourage regular 'mindful breaks'
- Lead by example—manager participation encourages wider adoption
For employees who want to explore mindfulness on their own terms, myStrength can offer extra support.
