Ways of working at Canada Life

We offer different types of working arrangements to allow the best in collaboration, and to give flexibility where it’s needed.

Work smarter with our hybrid working approach

We believe home working and in-office collaboration creates stronger teams and space to innovate. We’re proud of our approach to hybrid working enabling colleagues to make the most of connecting in the office and the flexibility of home working. Most colleagues will work in a hybrid way but there are also fully home based and fully office based roles in the UK.

Being together in the office is an important part of our culture and achieving our strategic goals. It’s not just about work – it’s about fuelling innovation, learning from one another, making quicker decisions, and building a sense of belonging.

Most of our office-based colleagues will spend at least two days per week (or 40% of working time) in an office and people leaders may be required to spend more time in an office to support their teams, but we know that no one size fits everybody.

Our approach is built on three simple principles: clarity of expectations, the value of in-person connection, and respect for the diversity of roles we do and how we do them best to deliver excellent outcomes to our customers.

Striking the right balance

Our approach is designed to provide all colleagues with the flexibility needed for a healthy work-life balance. People leaders will agree the right approach with you to strike the right balance for organisational efficiency and your individual needs. We understand that:

  • Some roles are more effective working mostly in an office, such as those in contact centres, teams working together on key projects or deadlines and teams with a high number of trainees or new joiners. We expect colleagues in these teams may benefit from spending more than two days per week in an office.
  • Some roles may be more effective working mostly from home, only coming into an office to collaborate, such as team meetings or in person learning events. Nevertheless, we expect these colleagues to spend at least one day per month in an office because we value in-person connection.

We understand that life is unpredictable and there will be days or weeks where plans need to change; our model isn’t about taking a ‘register’ of daily or weekly attendance.  We aim to build a collaborative and inclusive workplace where all can thrive.

If you are applying for a role with us, the working arrangement will be discussed and agreed with the recruiting manager during the recruitment process. Our offices are located in London, Potters Bar, Bristol, Isle of Man and Dublin. Our job adverts will state which office the role is available in.
