Life Insurance Claims

Financial support when it matters

Our Life Insurance provides a one-off, tax-free payment if you die while covered or you’re diagnosed with a terminal illness.

If you need to cancel your policy due to rising living costs please get in touch as we may be able to help. By cancelling your policy, you will no longer have the benefit of the cover it provides and it is likely to be more expensive to arrange a replacement policy in the future if you should need to.

Please note: Canada Life no longer provides new policies of this type.

Make a claim

A step-by-step guide to making a Life Insurance claim

Before you begin

Make sure you have the following information to hand if it’s available:

  • Name of deceased
  • Your relationship to them
  • Cause of death
  • Policy number (if you know it)

1. Start your claim

You can start your claim in one of the following ways:

Call our claims team on 01707 422975

Email us at:

2. We’ll review your claim

Once we receive your claim, we’ll review it and keep you updated on our progress. Just so you’re aware, we’ll usually need you to send us the original death certificate, which we’ll send back to you. We may also need other legal or medical documents, but we’ll get in touch so that you know what to send us.

3. Get a decision

We’ll aim to give you a decision as quickly as we can. If we approve your claim, we’ll make a payment to the nominated account (usually the person making a claim).

If we don’t approve the claim, we’ll tell you why and let you know how to appeal.
